TNPSC Group 1 Exam

TNPSC Group 1 is the topmost examination conducted by TamilNadu Public Service Commission. Candidates who are selected in the Group 1 exam will be recruited for a higher position in the state Government of TamilNadu. Lakhs of aspirants eagerly wait for the release of TNPSC Group 1 notification. Every year Lakhs of aspirants appear for TNPSC Group 1 examinations and to qualify in exams candidates need to work very hard to succeed. 

Many people have qualified in TNPSC Group 1 exams successfully even without coaching. Besides, we need to have a strict schedule to complete the entire syllabus. Before starting to study for the examination prepare a schedule, try to complete the topic or subject within the scheduled time. 

Make sure you complete the syllabus before the exam. Plan things, know what you are going to cover on which day and how you will be revising before your exam. Next what you should do is learn every topic properly and thoroughly. Don’t forget to revise, keep time for revision. It can help you remember a lot of important things during your exams. Make sure to revise at least 2 to 3 times before the exam. Just simply memorizing all the topics will not help you for scoring good cutoff marks in the exam.

 Make sure you gain knowledge about the particular topic which you're learning. Practice more than you study. After learning a topic revise it completely before you start learning any other topic or subject. At the end of the week revise what are all you have studied throughout the week.

Candidate should have been obtained by passing the required qualification in the order of studies 10th, HSC, degree. Candidates who are in the final year of degree examination may also apply for Group I Preliminary exams.

Age Concession

(i) For Differently Abled Persons

Differently Abled Persons are eligible for age concession up to 10 years over and above the maximum age limit prescribed above.

(ii) For Ex-Servicemen

(a) The maximum age limit is 53 years for the applicants who belong to SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BCs and BCMs.

(b) The maximum age limit is 48 years for “Others” (i.e.) applicants not belonging to any of the above said categories.

(c) The above-mentioned age concession will not apply to the Ex-Servicemen applicants who have already been recruited to any class or service or category.

Note:- (i) “Others” [i.e., applicants not belonging to SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BCs, and BCMs] who have put in 5 years and more of service in the State / Central Government are not eligible to apply even if they are within the age limit.

(ii) Instructions are given with regard to maximum age limit under para 6 of the “Instructions to Applicants” will not apply to this recruitment.

EXAM PATTERN:

TamilNadu Public Service Commission Group 1 has three phases of examination that are prelims, mains, and interview or Oral Test. The first phase of the examination is a preliminary examination which contains 200 objective type questions for 300 marks that will be conducted for 3 hours of duration. In these 175 questions will be asked from General Studies (General Science, History of Indian, Geography of India, Indian Polity, Indian Economy and Current affairs, Indian National Movement, Current Affairs, History, Culture, Heritage and Socio-Political Movements in Tamil Nadu, Development Administration in Tamil Nadu), and 25 Aptitude & Mental Ability questions. Based on the preliminary cutoff marks candidates will be selected for mains examination. Mains Examination is a descriptive type of examination which consists of three papers, each paper carry of 250 marks.

The Group 1 preliminary exam result will be published like mains examination, only the register number of the candidates those who have scored the certain cutoff marks will be shortlisted and displayed in the TamilNadu Public Service Commission official website.

Paper 2: 250 Marks - 3 hours duration

• Indian polity and emerging political trends across the world affecting India

• Tamil Society - Its Culture and Heritage

Paper 3: 250 Marks - 3 hours duration

Topics:

• Geography of India with special reference to Tamil Nadu

• Environment, Bio Diversity and Disaster Management

• Indian Economy - Current economic trends and impact of global economy on India

iii. Interview:

• Oral Test - 100 marks

Those who secured the qualifying marks in the mains examination are only eligible for the interview or oral test which will be conducted for 100 marks. Only mains examination and interview marks will be considered for the final selection.
